Let OUP handle the cover? We are wasting quite a bit of time, for our graphic designers because they have to wait until there is a title or whatever.
In their individual standings, Osman and Jibran's work is great, but Jibran's cover, I don't feel that it goes with the theme of the book. I mean, its wonderful, it is catchy and I know I would pick it up, but I would be disappointed when most of the stories inside turn out to be serious. I would buy it expecting maybe a hearty dose of satire or humourous writing. ... I don't see Meditations of a Hari coming across in the blue-eyed ladies from Pakistan. Nor do I expect something like Thomas Merton or serious poems... even Umbreen's story was that of a rather contemporary person, but it was a serious person. As a cover, it stands well, but it does not really synchronize so well with the stories in the book.
So, instead of going around in circles, why don't we bring in professionals? OUP has had a good record for covers, and let them do the job?
Hope everyone had a Happy Eid.

A very matter of fact kind of approach, had i been anyone other than osman i wouldnt have had second thoughts in agreeing, but, i dont know, i mean ,is this it? i would agree that i find it almost funny , trying to communiate ideas with the rest of the group thru the net,i dont even know how well they get through, i know weve been going round in circles,i dont like that much either, so all i can do in this situation is to comply, i do what everyone else sez,if we all want to go for the pros at the oup, i'm fine with that.but meanwhile if we do reach a consensus over anything that requires my sevices, i'll be available.
osman, firstly thanks for being so helpful and trying your best. we know you've been busy with your mini-thesis and catching up on semester work, yet you've still been giving it youre all, and without complaining. but the fact of the matter remains that 85% of the group apparently does not visit the blog or bothers to contribute, which is a shame and is unfair on you and anyone else who is contributing. i agree with maryam, let the pros handle it.
See, that's the thing: As long as we have consensus and everyone, meaning EVERYONE says "aye" to a certain thing, I have no problems with it...
The only reason why having pros in would be good would be because then we could save time and keep the focus of this Bol Group on the writing part of things.
well , i was actually quite excited abut the whole book cover business in the beginning, and as i kept thinking over it , it became quite clear that it would be close to impossible to give in a coordinated effort with jibran and sehba as long as we keep relying on the blog and email as means of exchanging ideas, since frankly, i find these media very ineffective in this respect or perhaps my lack of command over these tools is the actual problem. The ambitious solution to this problem in my mind was that i may go to karachi and sit down with the designers there, as well as the other group members, and come up with a hopefully 'unanamous' decision. I was primarily relying on two notions, firstly that i am actually quite a good illustrator(i still havnt made a deviant art account othrwise i could have shown you people more works to prove my point). And secondly that i will show the group some of my recent works and let them decide if they need my services,
but the only reply i got was from jibran saying that my work for the cover would look rediculous if he tried to incorporate it with the existing cover. and that i should rather make a sketch of a woman in distress or something , for an inside page...
as of now, i am still ready and willing, but not as excited.
yeah we could always do that. but if i were you osman, i wouldn't letgo of this opportunity which will hardly ever come again. consider your name under cover designer in an oup book!!but i av no problem with the pro's handling the cover.
